Summary

An ICU nurse accidentally uncovers a patient's frightening past in this chilling thriller from the New York Times bestselling author of Local Woman Missing and Just the Nicest Couple。 Meghan Michaels is trying to find balance between being a single mom to a teenage daughter and working as a full time nurse。 While on duty at the hospital one day, a patient named Caitlin arrives in a coma with a traumatic brain injury, having jumped from a bridge and plunging over twenty feet to the train tracks below。 But when a witness comes forward with shocking details about the fall, it calls everything they know into question。 Was Caitlin pushed and if so, by whom and why? Meghan has always tried to stay emotionally detached from her patients, but this time, she mistakenly lets herself get too close until she's deeply entangled in Caitlin's and her family's lives。 Only when it's too late, does she realize that she and her daughter could be the next victims。

She’s Not Sorry by Mary KubicaPub date: April 2, 2024This is one of the twistiest thrillers I’ve read in a while! Meghan Michaels is a newly divorced critical care RN, living with her teen daughter in a fairly rough neighborhood。 When a young woman comes in having seemingly jumped from a bridge, Meghan is assigned to take care of her。 It’s a disturbing case made all the more disturbing because there’s a rapist on the loose in the neighborhood, following women home and attacking them。 Meanwhile, She’s Not Sorry by Mary KubicaPub date: April 2, 2024This is one of the twistiest thrillers I’ve read in a while! This right here is why I’m such a Kubica fan and why I love a good thriller that can still shock me。 Revealing too much will spoil this story, so I’ll stop right here but not before I urge anyone who loves a complex and gripping (yes, I said gripping – ugh) thriller that will lead the reader down a merry path of guessing, second guessing and then come right back around again。 It was fantastic!Thrilling, gripping and completely unpredictable! Loved this one so much! 。。。more

Once I got into the story, I couldn’t put it down。 Some of this novel reminded me of The Silent Patient but in other ways it was better cause I liked some of the characters。 Great story with tough choices made。 Open ending to keep you guessing as to what really happened。

I knew that this would be a good book because Mary Kubica is a fantastic writer and this book was no exception。 What I didn't anticipate however would be how fast I would get hooked and how hard it would be to do other things。 This book centers around our main character Megan who is a nurse at a local hospital。 Megan is given the task of looking after a young woman (Caitlyn) who is in a coma after a recent suicide attempt。 Or at least that is what we are led to believe。 The more that Megan digs I knew that this would be a good book because Mary Kubica is a fantastic writer and this book was no exception。 What I didn't anticipate however would be how fast I would get hooked and how hard it would be to do other things。 This book centers around our main character Megan who is a nurse at a local hospital。 Megan is given the task of looking after a young woman (Caitlyn) who is in a coma after a recent suicide attempt。 Or at least that is what we are led to believe。 The more that Megan digs into Caitlyn's past the more she discovers that not everything is as it seems and Caitlyn might not be as good as she previously thought。 I really liked Megan right off the bat。 She had lots of redeeming qualities and I liked how the story was told through her point of view so it let the reader slowly discover what actually happened to the Caitlyn, and the more her story unfolded the more I was left gasping。 This book was perfect because while there were so many twists there was just enough not to confuse the reader with a lot of useless information。  I loved the plot line of this book and I loved the characters even more。 Everything was so magically written that I found myself submerged in the story and desperate to find out what was going on。 This fast paced thriller is one that you won't want to miss。 And if you are the kind of person who has to figure things out before the reveal and this is the perfect book because all of the twists and red herrings make that a very hard but fun challenge to complete。 Just like Mary Kubica's other works this is one that will be glued to your side until it is finished because you won't be able to put it down。  And the ending。。。 man oh man, all I can say is you have to read this one! Right when I thought it couldn't get better it broke through the glass ceiling。 Great read and I can't wait for the release date so I can start recommending it to everyone I know。 。。。more

The beginning of the book made me hesitant to continue。 The author gave the sense of over-explaining medical devices/practices which made it feel as if she was just looking to increase word-count。 Being in healthcare, I may have more insight than an average reader but even if some of the details were not shared, the average reader would still have been able to understand a critical care setting。 After the initial 30% or so, the book became a page turner with multiple mysteries that make the read The beginning of the book made me hesitant to continue。 The author gave the sense of over-explaining medical devices/practices which made it feel as if she was just looking to increase word-count。 Being in healthcare, I may have more insight than an average reader but even if some of the details were not shared, the average reader would still have been able to understand a critical care setting。 After the initial 30% or so, the book became a page turner with multiple mysteries that make the reader guessing----the relationship between Declan and Nat, Meghan's patient and the mysterious man that lingers, and an event happening at Meghan's apartment building while there is a madman on the loose assaulting women。 These ideas lead the reader to continue guessing what is going to happen next and if/how these things are connected。 The story continues with many layers, a brother showing up to the hospital with a story that doesn't add up, a "friend" showing up with obvious distaste for Caitlin's parents。 The story starts coming together at an odd point, essentially the mysterious stranger that gives Meghan bad vibes shows up out of the blue, seeking Meghan out。 Half-way through, the reader is hit with a huge twist that you didn't see coming and then slowly all of the pieces start falling into place。 。。。more

3。75 Characters were good。 Storyline was decent。 Multiple twist to keep you going throughout。 Certainly well written and got your heart pumping to see where it was going at a few turns。 No lack of villains and lots of characters who will make you think about what really makes a villain and what are actions you too could make to keep yourself or your family safe。

ICU nurse Meghan Michaels is taking care of coma patient who jumped from a pedestrian bridge in Chicago。 Or did she? There's also a rapist on the lose, attacking women as they enter their apartments alone。 Early on, Meghan runs into an old friend from high school at a divorce support group and immediately suspects she's being abused by her husband。 The story had potential, but it turned into a big mess of weak red herrings, insignificant side plots and stupid decisions。 The scene from the prolog ICU nurse Meghan Michaels is taking care of coma patient who jumped from a pedestrian bridge in Chicago。 Or did she? Local Woman Missing is one of my favorite thrillers I’ve read so far this year so I was ecstatic to be approved for a ARC of She’s Not Sorry! What the heck was this?First of all, I understand an ARC isn't going to be perfect and there will be errors throughout。 That's fine。 But there were zero page breaks in the formatting, which made it really confusing to figure out timelines。 You'd be reading a scene and then the next paragraph is a new day, new location。 It was jarring and unexpected because it threw me for a loop and I had to go back and see if I missed something, only to determine there was probably a page break that never got f What the heck was this?First of all, I understand an ARC isn't going to be perfect and there will be errors throughout。 That's fine。 But there were zero page breaks in the formatting, which made it really confusing to figure out timelines。 You'd be reading a scene and then the next paragraph is a new day, new location。 It was jarring and unexpected because it threw me for a loop and I had to go back and see if I missed something, only to determine there was probably a page break that never got formatted。Here's where this book went wrong for me。 Possible spoilers will be tagged。- Too many things going on at once。 I kind of went in blind (read the synopsis forever ago but forgot what it was about by the time I got the ARC) so most of this book was a surprise。 Was it about her divorce? The man assaulting women throughout her city? The gal in the ICU? Her friend that came back into her life? The Beckett family who seemed to have a ton of secrets, including the brother who was def hiding something? I feel like if she focused on one or two of these things, it would have worked。 Not all of them。- The pacing。 Holy shit this was rough。 It was so slow。 I had no interest in any of the characters, including the main one, Meghan。 She seemed kind of。。。dumb? I can't place my finger on it。 But she wasn't too bright。 It's hard to continue a book when you don't give a damn about anyone or anything。 I think 65% if finally felt like things were "picking up。"- Mary spent wayyyyyyy too much time describing where Meghan lived。 Listen, I don't need to know street signs and landmarks。 I don't need to know--as she's chasing characters down the road--what the air felt like and how the trees smelled or the way the buildings looked in the shadows of the afternoon。 I'm being harsh。 But I skimmed PAGES (maybe a single page if we aren't talking paperback as opposed to my Kindle setting) of random crap and info you don't need to know about in this story。 Like apartment layouts and hospital info that gave nothing to the story but filler。- One "twist" was so freaking obvious, I was like wait a sec。 (view spoiler)[Luke, her friendly co-worker at the hospital, is the dude assaulting and raping women? I thought this was common knowledge, something we all knew from the first page。 Just kidding, it was revealed at the end in this dramatic "I have your daughter, come get her in this unfurnished house if you ever want to see her again," finale that felt like this was actually the plot all along, not the roughed up gal in the ICU。 (hide spoiler)] I feel like she got her twists confused and wanted to have too many that ultimately didn't work。 You also need to create more red herrings if you want to play out one that she used in the book。Another thing: (view spoiler)[The first chapter/prologue is basically Meghan finding out her daughter is kidnapped and then leaves it on a cliffhanger for you to find out how it got to that point。 ONLY TO FIND OUT IT WAS ALL A SCAM? Some AI voice generated ransom and her daughter was completely fine。 LIKE WHAT? (hide spoiler)] That was lazy writing and honestly, I was really pissed。Also Meghan just DROPPING THIS BOMB on her friend and confessing(view spoiler)[her daughter is actually the result of a one-night stand, not her ex-husband's child。 WHY WOULD YOU TELL AN OLD FRIEND THAT? Someone you haven't seen in decades, who you still barely know, just because she decided to tell you a secret? I was so mad。 I was like come the f*ck on。 Her actions were stupid, like horror-movie-dumb girl-running-straight-for-the-killer-stupid。 (hide spoiler)]What else? I don't know。 This just didn't feel like her writing。 To compare this to The Other Mrs。 is blasphemy。 Those are two different worlds, two different books。 I gave Mrs。 five stars。 Loved that book。Oh also: (view spoiler)[HER DAUGHTER SENDING HER HATE MAIL? Like。。。I just questioned everyone's motive in this book。 That was so stupid。 It was added in as a way to throw us off or keep us wondering, when in reality, that didn't seem like something her daughter would do。 Also, we get it, your daughter is gorgeous。 We heard it like 20 times。 And she wanted to potentially kill her mom and lock her in the basement all because of this secret? Like guuuurl, are you also Caitlin? Did I miss this? Was she implying her daughter would also turn psycho? (hide spoiler)]Okay and one more thing: (view spoiler)[ I need to go back and see how and why it was able to work that Caitlin, the dying gal in the ICU, was actually her "friend" Nat。 Basically, one timeline was actually split in two, a before and after。 I don't know how she got that to work, because when it was revealed, I was like wait no, this doesn't make sense。 So I might need to go back because I hate when we're in the mind of the MC but they're purposely reacting differently for the sake of a twist。 That's not fair, it's cheap, it's lazy。 (hide spoiler)]No, promise last thing: (view spoiler)[Nat/Caitlin basically got revenge on Meghan because。。。。。。。。。。。。she is the ex-wife of the dude she's dating。 That's it。 She hatched this huge plan to ruin her life, take $10,000 from the random ransom of her daughter, all because she found an old photo of the married couple back in the day hidden away in a sock drawer。 We're told from another outside character that Caitlin is basically an evil whore/bitch/terrible person because she ruined his life BECAUSE HE FIRED HER FOR STEALING。 Like wow, insignificant reasons to absolutely annihilate someone's life, but okay。 She's "psycho" and deserved to die。 But it felt all too small。 I wish we got more backstory instead of "if Caitlin's mom said she couldn't get a Barbie doll, she'd call 911 and claim we were beating the shit out of her" type excuses。 Just lazy。 LAZYYYYY! (hide spoiler)]I don't know about this one。 If you love Mary's books, you'll love this one。 If you're on the fence and always rating maybe 3 stars or less, you might not like this one。 Skip it。 Or read it, come back and read my review, and let me know what you think。 Am I crazy? Too harsh? Probably。 But this one really fired me up。 。。。more

Mary Kubica never fails to keep me on my toes, and this one was no different。 I ended up reading this one in under 24 hours and it was such a quick and easy page-turner。 However, rating this one is tricky。 While I really enjoyed the twists, I feel like some of the plot points weren't as flushed out as they could have been and I was left with a handful of unanswered questions by the time I read the last page。 That was a bit frustrating, but not enough that it made the book unlikeable by any means Mary Kubica never fails to keep me on my toes, and this one was no different。 I ended up reading this one in under 24 hours and it was such a quick and easy page-turner。 However, rating this one is tricky。 While I really enjoyed the twists, I feel like some of the plot points weren't as flushed out as they could have been and I was left with a handful of unanswered questions by the time I read the last page。 That was a bit frustrating, but not enough that it made the book unlikeable by any means。Speaking of unlikeable。。。 I'm unsure how I feel about our protagonist。 I struggled to root for her along the way, but also loved the way she kept pivoting from prey to predator along the journey。 I also think it would have been nice if the first major reveal came into play a bit earlier on in the story to draw readers in rather than having the first half of the book feel a bit mundane in comparison to the second half。 I also wasn't a fan of the prologue serving as a red herring of sorts, either。 It almost took away from the beauty of the uniqueness of the real plot line。 Overall, this one was a solid 4 stars for me。 It was an interesting read and I can see most thriller readers really enjoying this one。 Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the advance copy, and I look forward to more from Kubica in the future! 。。。more

Yes, which is why I didn’t give it ⭐️⭐️。 I recommend it and I enjoyed it, but you don’t want to take time reading this or you’ll feel lost; I would have anyway。 Thank you NetGalley for this ARC and allowing me to read early and review。 Meghan Michaels is a recently single mom of a 16 year old daughter and learning to maneuver her new life while continuing her 20 year career as an ICU nurse。 In her career, she has always been able to separate herself from becoming emotionally attached to her patients, however, when 32 year old Caitlin arrives in her care after a failed suic!de attempt, she fails miserable to detach。 With a serial rap!st attacking women within a few block radius of her apartment, she is constantly sidetracked for the safety of her daughter when she cannot be home with her。 Newly divorced, Meghan runs into a high school friend at her support group who is being abused by her husband。 Due to a tragic incident with a former patient, Meghan does everything she can to help this old friend find safety。 Meghan also just discovered she may have breast cancer。 While she is stretched thin, she receives a call that her daughter, Sierra, has been kidn@pped and a ransom is required of her。 As Meghan processes these rapidly occurring events in her life, she begins uncovering secrets in the lives of those surrounding her, including that her patient is the victim of an attempted hom!cide。 When part two hits, your jaw WILL drop。 Those TWISTS were on point。 I want to rate this higher for those, but the story didn’t begin coming together until 70% and there was just too much happening to the FMC in such a short time frame。 。。。more

There were aspects of this book I really liked。 I enjoyed the pacing of the book; it moved quickly and very much kept me on edge the entire time I was reading。 I also really loved the way the story was written。 There were points when you could feel the tunnel vision the main character was experiencing like it was happening to you, which I found enticing。 There were interesting red herrings with some very good twists。 I appreciated how all the information we learned, mattered and came together。 I There were aspects of this book I really liked。 I enjoyed the pacing of the book; it moved quickly and very much kept me on edge the entire time I was reading。 I also really loved the way the story was written。 There were points when you could feel the tunnel vision the main character was experiencing like it was happening to you, which I found enticing。 There were interesting red herrings with some very good twists。 I appreciated how all the information we learned, mattered and came together。 I didn’t care for the main character very much, but I appreciate how she needed to be that way for the story to work。 I also didn’t much care for the minor characters, I felt no real attachment to any of them。 The ending also just didn’t land for me, I was hoping for a more exciting ending, especially with all the lead up? I really expected more。 I also felt that the sub story line about the serial killer was, for lack of a better word, overkill and there just for the sake of having。 It didn’t really add anything to the story for me。 Thank you to NetGalley and Harlequin Trade Publishing for the ARC! 。。。more

She's Not Sorry is a unique thriller。 The first half follows a newly divorced nurse that is trying to navigate the dangers of being a single woman and living in the city while dealing with a coma patient that hits too close to home。 The story ramps up toward the middle when a twist provides an unexpected turn of events。 I think the pace of this story was great and the slow build up and descriptive psychological elements were fantastic and made the main character connect with the reader。 5 stars! But a twisty murder mystery set in Chicago? Sign me up!I honestly loved this book despite knowing a few of the twists early on。 Not sure why I haven’t gotten a publishing deal yet!! I’m so smart。The setting was immaculate, the characters mostly morally gray and many story lines intersecting in a really fun way。 I loved the timeline of the book too - I know some people will not but I am not those people。 I know some of this is a bit unrealistic but you know what? It’s fiction。 Who cares - we’re j But a twisty murder mystery set in Chicago? She's Not Sorry has red herrings, twists and turns, some nasty characters ( love that) and some you just wish the best for。The book has quite a few sub plots and as a reader I could not wait to see how they all tied together。Meghan a single mum raising her 16 year old daughter Sienna is also an ICU nurse。She gets assigned to a patient who jumped from a bridge but did not succumb to her injuries as of yet。On the home front Meghan is doing her best to raise her daughter and keep her safe。She is wo She's Not Sorry has red herrings, twists and turns, some nasty characters ( love that) and some you just wish the best for。The book has quite a few sub plots and as a reader I could not wait to see how they all tied together。Meghan a single mum raising her 16 year old daughter Sienna is also an ICU nurse。She gets assigned to a patient who jumped from a bridge but did not succumb to her injuries as of yet。On the home front Meghan is doing her best to raise her daughter and keep her safe。She is worried as there is a man attacking women in her area。The tension mounts。 Meghan meets Nat an old friend from high school but something about her story does not ring true。Everyone has secrets , everyone is hiding something that will blow apart their world if the truth comes out。Mary Kubica is a master at surprising the reader with a jaw dropping ending and She's Not Sorry is no exception。Grab your copy, clear your calendar and get ready for a tense, nail biting read。 Thanks to NetGalley and Harelquin Trade Publishing, Park Row for page turning read。 。。。more

When I say a love a good thriller! I love a good thriller。 This was a great read that had me on the edge of my seat trying to figure out what would happen next。 Meghan is an ICU nurse who is currently taking care of a woman in a coma。 Something is astray within the first few pages and sets up the story for a wild rollercoaster。 There’s a killer on the loose and a woman who might not have committed suicide。 I loved how everything connected together in the end but that little cliffhanger at the en When I say a love a good thriller!
